It is a descendent of the Egyptian Podencos that came to Spain with the colonization of Gandir, now called Cadiz. The Podenco Andaluz looks a lot like Anubis, the Ancient Egyptians god of the dead. Thanks to the numerous invasions of the Iberian Peninsula, the breed has been in contact with many cultures and civilisations.
