History
An exceptional hunting dog. This is one of the most popular breeds, especially in the United States. The Podenco was brought to Europe by the Phoenicians, and was refined in France by crossing it with the bloodhound.

Description

Strong, fast and resistant. It has an excellent sense of smell and is used to pursuing its prey through steep French mountains. This is, without doubt, one of the hardiest hunting dogs you will find.

Character
A serious dog which concentrates while hunting and is sensitive and sociable in other circumstances.

Uses
This dog was originally bred for Wolf hunting in the French region of Gascogne.  Generally used when retrieving mammals, specialises in hare and rabbit hunting.
